Jazz guitar legend, Jim Hall is the key to this collaboration. Besides being a major influence and mentor to these two guitarists, it was at his workshop in NYC, in the winter of 1997, where these two souls met.

Back to Reunion

Guitarist Sheryl Bailey and Chris Bergson were invited to perform at Jim's master class to play and be in the presence of the master.
"I remember Chris played Embraceable You. And what
was so amazing was his
command of the ballad tempo
and his intuitive melodicism",
says Sheryl, of her partner.
"He is such a natural improviser
and his swing is so deep."

After that meeting, Sheryl and Chris stayed in touch — Chris was finishing his studies at Oberlin College and Sheryl was busy establishing herself on the competitive NYC scene. Through the years the two have developed an important musical rapport. This project initially began as a duo guitar recording — to document the afternoon jam sessions at Sheryl's Queens apartment, but as the material developed and inspiration
grew, the project evolved into a band by adding bassist, Ashley Turner and drummer, Sunny Jain
— two creative musicians that both of the guitarists have been working with since they moved to the city.
A band is born and a sound created: Reunion of Souls.

This recording is a reflection on swing, blues, influences, group improvisation, and friendship — celebrating the connections that are

born from playing jazz and living as a jazz musician in this new century. New compositions, re-working of a few standards, extended improvisations, and the joy of creativity in motion. This CD is a must-have for guitarists and lover of swinging, honest jazz.
